Syria 2014: Israel bombs military sites after explosion at border

Israel attacked several Syrian military sites on Wednesday, March 19, after four IDF soldiers were wounded in a bomb attack in the Golan Heights near the Syrian border.
According to Reuters, the targets of the air strike included a Syrian military headquarters, a training facility and artillery batteries.
The bomb that hit an Israeli army jeep carrying four soldiers was planted near the Syrian border in Majdal Shams, Haaretz reported.
According to an initial investigation, the soldiers approached the border after suspicious figures were seen from a lookout tower. The explosive device was detonated as the soldiers exited the jeep.
After the explosion, the soldiers were evacuated to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa for treatment.
Three of them received light to moderate injuries while a fourth sustained serious injuries, Haaretz reported.
Israel blamed Damascus for the roadside bombing, though parts of the Syrian-held side of the Golan are controlled by rebels, Reuters reported.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said Israel will respond firmly to any threat.
"The border with Syria is filling up with jihadi and Hezbollah forces," he was quoted by Haaretz as saying. "In recent years we have managed to maintain calm in the face of the civil war in Syria. We will also act firmly to safeguard the safety of the state of Israel."
Israel captured the Golan from Syria in the 1967 war, but according to Reuters the annexation was not recognized abroad.
