The US threatens Russia with more sanctions over the turmoil in Ukraine. Washington says Moscow must remain committed to Thursday’s deal and de-escalate the situation.
Rice added that if Moscow fails to abide by the deal between Russia, the EU, Ukraine and the US, then significant sectors of the Russian economy could be targeted by sanctions. The Kremlin was quick to respond. It said Russia is not the only party responsible for implementing the agreement on easing tensions in Ukraine. A Kremlin spokesman noted that threats of further sanctions by Washington are unacceptable. The US and EU have already imposed asset freezes and visa bans on a number of top Russian officials.
