THE INTERVIEW - Todd Shepard, Author of 'The Algerian War and the Remaking of France'
Todd Shepard, an associate professor of history at Johns Hopkins University in the US, has written extensively on modern France and its former colonial empire. He is the author, notably, of "The Invention of Decolonization: The Algerian War and the Remaking of France". It explores the fallout from the Algerian war of independence on France's very identity and state institutions.
He speaks to Douglas Herbert about the current state of Franco-Algerian relations, in the week that ailing President Bouteflika was re-elected to a controversial fourth term.
