Iron Bowl shooting: Alabama fan kills other Bama fan over Auburn loss

A woman has been charged with killing a fellow Alabama football fan after last weekend's Iron Bowl game because she was upset that the victim and others didn't seem to be mad that Alabama lost to in-state rival Auburn, the sister of the victim said.

Adrian Loraze Briskey, 28, was charged on Monday with the murder of 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd.

Both Birmingham women were Crimson Tide fans and at a party together for the big annual game between the Tide and the Tigers, said Hoover police Capt. Jim Coker. With no time left on the game clock, the Tigers returned a missed field goal try for 109 yards to stun the reigning national champions 34-28, destroying any hopes for a third straight national championship for Alabama.

Briskey went crazy when she saw the sisters and others kidding around that Alabama's loss wasn't as bad as if the NBA's Miami Heat had lost a game, Nekesa Shepherd said.

"She said we weren't real Alabama fans because it didn't bother us that they lost. And then she started shooting," Shepherd said. She said she and her sister were invited to the party by a mutual friend who also asked Briskey to come. Around two dozen people were at the party.

The victim was shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham, and the women did not know each other before the party, Coker said.

Coker said that booze might have been a factor. Authorities are waiting for toxicology reports to make a decision.
