Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared war on the horse-drawn carriage business, calling the industry inhumane and proposing to replace the retired horses with electric-powered replicas of vintage cabs.

De Blasio has declined to meet with horse carriage operators or hear their opinions since taking office. In a Google hangout last Friday, de Blasio confirmed his commitment to the ban: "We expect action on it this year."

One problem that the mayor might face is that a majority of New Yorkers disagree with him. The latest Quinnipiac poll shows that 64 percent of New Yorkers support the horse carriages.

Luckily for the horses, Liam Neeson is on the case. It's now a race against clock as Neeson, actor and horse-lover, plans to battle it out with the de Blasio administration over the fate of Central Park's beloved four-legged friends.

Will Hizzoner succeed in putting an end to a 150-year-old New York tradition?
Or will Darkman save the day?
