Ceausescu's Bucharest pleasuredome up for sale

4 years ago2.1K views

Once its exotic greenhouse housed peacocks and parrots for the amusement of the Communist rulers of Romania, but now the private residence of the Ceausescus in the Romanian capital Bucharest has been put up for sale.

Built in 1965 for the dictator, his wife and children, since the fall of Communism it has been used to welcome state visitors, but the government no longer wants to pay for its upkeep. as it is little-used.

The palace has an adjoining 14,000 square metre landplot.

In 1989 the couple were unceremoniously dragged from the building after the coup d’etat which resulted in the presidential couple being sentenced to death and killed on Christmas Day.

Images from the Ceausescu home, including from his bathroom equipped with gold taps, appeared on national TV the same day.

The administration has yet to announce a price for the palace.
