Amateur video captures the confusion aboard the South Korean ferry which capsized on Wednesday.

As the vessel lists an announcement urges passengers to stay put.

Even though they're wearing lifejackets the announcement warns them it would be more dangerous to move.

The video emerged on the same day the president of the company which operated the ferry said the firm had committed a great sin.

(SOUNDBITE)(Korean) KIM HAN-SIK, PRESIDENT OF CHONGHAEJJIN MARINE CO. LTD, SAYING:

"We sincerely apologise to the victims and their families as well as the people of the country."

By Friday midday at least 28 people were confirmed to have died.

Another 268 were still missing, many of them school children.

Their families were praying for the return of their loved ones in the face of rising fears none will now be found alive.

On Thursday South Korean schools held candle-light vigils for the missing.

An investigation's underway into the cause
