CCTV footage: Customer tackles old man in drug store robbery caught on camera

An armed robber was surprised when his plan was foiled by another customer while attempting to rob a CVS pharmacy in Sarasota, Florida on Sunday.

Freddie F. Johnson, 65, walked into the pharmacy wearing a bandana over his face and demanded that the clerk hand over all of the Oxycodone and Hydromorphone pills. He held his hand in his pocket in such a way that implied he had a gun.

The clerk handed over the requested pills in plastic baskets, but Johnson demanded that she give him a bag. Another customer, Jaanus Jurisoo, was also in the store watching the robbery unfold. He can be seen on camera sneaking up from behind Johnson before putting the old man in a chokehold.

Jurisoo tackled Johnson and held him down until police arrived. Johnson has been charmed with one count of armed robbery despite not having any weapons on him. He is also facing a second charge of armed robbery in connection to similar stickup of a Hedges pharmacy in February.

"Although we applaud the actions of Mr. Jurisoo in bringing this suspect into custody, we do not encourage or recommend that members of the public take matters into their own hands when they observe a crime," said Captain Patrick Robinson on behalf of the Sarasota Police Department.
