A little boy, who has experienced a very tough life, recently had a dream come true. Make A Wish Colorado granted Max Vertin's wish and turned him into 'Iron Man' for a day.
A little boy, who has experienced a very tough life, recently had a dream come true. Max Vertin is 8 years old and suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
He recently got to portray 'Iron Man' in an unbeatable way. A limo carted Max right to the entrance of SkyVenture Colorado in Lone Tree.
Staffers were waiting for him. They greeted him outside and then escorted him indoors where they brought him his special 'Iron Man' suit. After his mom suited him up, he was taken to a vertical wind tunnel.
An employee guided Max through the motions, as 100 mile winds helped boost him upwards, giving him the sensation and appearance of flying. Max’s brother 5-year-old Rowan also took a turn in the wind chamber.
Their mother, Betty Vertin is the carrier of the genetic disease that eventually results in the ‘steady decline in muscle strength’. All three of her boys have the condition.
Max is the oldest of the boys, and according to Betty, he may soon be in a wheelchair. Given the emotions and uncertainty of the future, Make A Wish Colorado granted Max’s wish, so the family could enjoy much needed moments of happiness.
