Staffers from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust along with one determined veterinarian and his team helped save the life of a severely wounded lioness in Kenya.

Don’t ever doubt how far some concerned humans will go to save the life of an animal. In one recent case, staffers from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust along with one determined veterinarian and his team helped save the life of a severely wounded lioness in Kenya.

The dramatic ordeal took place on April 4th. Authorities from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust or DSWT frantically contacted veterinarian Dr. Njoroge from the Kenyan Wildlife Service asking for help.

The lioness named Siena had been horrifically wounded by the horn of a buffalo. She was left with a gaping hole in her body and the loose flesh was left dangling towards the ground.

Once Njoroge was alerted of the dire situation, he got his team together, packed up his belongings and jumped onboard an aircraft destined for the Maasai Mara National Reserve to save the 11-year-old lioness.

It took about an hour and a half to treat her with antibiotics and attend to the wound.

Following the professional lifesaving efforts, Siena was free to join her herd. She is now doing great. Thanks to the team, Siena’s life was saved, as were those of her three cubs.
