A sad looking, search and rescue bloodhound named Pa Kettle has been deemed the mayor in the Colorado town of Divide.
It’s a sad fact that many politicians aren’t well liked…the human ones that is, which may be why some town residents are choosing to elect animals.
Case in point – a sad looking, search and rescue bloodhound named Pa Kettle that has been deemed the mayor in the Colorado town of Divide. Although Pa Kettle’s political status isn’t exactly official, an online election was held to raise money for the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter.
Pa Kettle won that race, coming ahead of a hedgehog, horse, numerous other dogs, a cat and even a wolf. He landed exactly 2,387 votes and he will be replacing a three-legged cat named Walter as the unofficial mayor.
The inauguration ceremony will reportedly be held on April 19th. Pa Kettles' human mom, Janet Bennett knew he was destined for mayorhood all along.
Just prior to winning the election, she remarked ‘He is the only candidate that has a real job. And he is the only candidate that has a last name and a verifiable birth certificate, which I don't think the others do ... and it's important. He's running as an independent.’
Each voter paid $1 to pick the animal of their choice, bringing in thousands of dollars for the shelter.
