Syria army has successfully carried out operations to liberate key towns in al-Qalamoun.
Syrian forces are now in control of the ancient town of Ma’loula, located about 60 kilometers northeast of Damascus.
The mainly-Christian town has changed hands between government troops and foreign-backed militants several times.
A large number of Takfiri terrorists were killed in the operation. Some managed to escape to the Housh Arab suburbs of the capital.
The army continues to chase them down. The town of Sarkha has also been liberated by the army.
The liberation of Sarkha and Ma’loula is the latest in a series of operations Syria army forces have been conducting since mid-March.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Sunday that the conflict has strongly shifted in favor of the government forces as they have made continuous gains in their battle against terrorists.
