Researchers at the University of Washington recently created a software program that can easily age a young child up to the age of 80. Although forensic applications, like those used to age progress missing children and apps that are just for fun can do something similar, the results are often very unnatural and sometimes questionable.
University of Washington’s version seems to be a step above them. The system isn’t precise on what kinds of photos are used. The software can carry out the transformation despite differing poses and expressions of featured children.
As a way to test how accurate the program is, the researchers choose 82 photos that were aged by the software along with real pictures and showed them to random study participants.
The results were pretty impressive as the testers chose the software altered images just as much as they picked the real life versions. Netizens will soon be able to try out the program online and the researchers hope it will also be used to assist missing children investigations.
