Moscow says it’s worried about Ukraine's unpaid debt for the supplies of natural gas from Russia.
Russian Finance Minister Anton Silu-anov has told US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew that Moscow is ready to work with international partners on financial aid for Kiev. Silu-anov says Moscow is specifically concerned about the fate of Russian gas exports to Europe for the next winter season. This follows earlier remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin who said Moscow may cut the delivery of gas to Ukraine, if Kiev fails to pay its bills in advance. Putin also said European leaders must take steps to stabilize Ukraine’s economy and ensure the transit of Russia's gas to Europe through the country.
