The Persian speaking world celebrates the arrival of the New Year. It’s called Nowruz and it celebrates renewal and rebirth, symbolized by the coming of spring.

Afghan people say the unrest that they face in their country cannot keep them away from celebrating the New Year. Because the people here believe that Nowruz is the celebration of life.

More than 1000 head of cattle have so far died in Uganda due to a prolonged drought. Many pastoralists are being forced to sell their animals at give-away prices to prevent them from starving to death.

A day-long conference focusing on the balance between government secrecy, transparency and public access to information was held at the Fordham Law School in New York City.

Panelists analyzed the implications of various national security leaks including military drone strikes, enhanced interrogation programs and WikiLeaks.
