STORY: Two car bombs exploded in Shi'ite neighbourhoods in the Iraqi capital late on Thursday (April 10), killing at least 13 people and wounding around 55 others, according to a police official.
The first blast exploded in the eastern Shi'ite working-class district of Sadr City. The second attack occurred in the southeastern al-Ameen neighbourhood.
Local residents could be seen gathering early on Friday (April 11) to inspect the damage along the roadside in Sadr City, where shopfronts had been destroyed and vehicles wrecked.
Levels of violence rose to their highest in years in 2013, when nearly 8,000 civilians were killed.
Security forces are battling Sunni Muslim insurgents in the western province of Anbar, where militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) overran the city of Falluja on January 1.
