The coordinated campaign to ban weaponized drones and drone surveillance continues across the United States. The campaign's main mission is to raise public awareness on drone bases, drone research facilities, test sites and drone manufacturers. On Tuesday the Grannies Peace Brigade and Know Drones.com, two of the many groups sponsoring the event set up camps in various parts of New York City in a bid to invite others to join their cause.
The campaign is termed as the "Spring Days of Action to End Drone Killing, Drone Surveillance, Global Militarization". It started on April 1, 2014 and will run through the month of May. A petition calling for action has already generated over 80,000 signatures. Organizers say they hope activists and supporters in the United States and around the world will join their efforts to win the passage of local laws to prohibit drone killings and surveillance of innocent civilians. Events like the one today are scheduled to take place regularly through spring. A panel discussion was also held in this regard last week here in New York, which was live streamed online for a national and international audience.
