Police in Hong Kong are on the hunt for a valuable, missing artwork that they believe may have been thrown in the trash by mistake.
Not everyone is an art connoisseur who can recognize multi-million dollar paintings. Police in Hong Kong are on the hunt for a valuable, missing artwork that they believe may have been thrown in the trash by mistake.
The painting, which is called ‘Snowy Mountain’ was auctioned off for $3.7 million just one day before it disappeared. Once auctioneers with Poly Auction realized it was nowhere to be found, they contacted authorities for help.
Managers at Grand Hyatt also offered assistance. The hotel issued a statement noting ‘As the organiser has rented our event venue for this auction, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is doing its best to offer assistance to Poly Auction including letting the police view the CCTV footage along with our security team.’
Police have since reviewed that footage and in it, cleaners were spotted removing the painting. Officers initiated a search at a local landfill to see if it ended up there, but thus far nothing has been found.
Given that it still remains missing, the possibly of theft cannot be ruled out as a potential crime.
