The United Nations has warned of a food shortage crisis in Syria due to a looming drought.
The UN's World Food Program says Syria's northwestern region has received less than half of the average rainfall since September. The area includes Syria's Aleppo, Idlib and Hama provinces and is the country's breadbasket region. UN officials say the issue could push millions more into hunger and make the country's refugee crisis worse. Syria depends on international donations for much of its needs. But, officials say food aid has been cut due to lack of funds from donors. The ongoing war on Syria has already forced millions of people to leave their homes and seek refuge elsewhere.
