The Arab League is to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the failure of the so-called peace talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
The Authority's Acting Chief Mahmoud Abbas-- who called for the meeting, is now heading to Egypt's capital Cairo. On Monday, the 22-member body accused Israel of lacking a real desire to reach an agreement with Palestinians. The negotiations collapsed after Israel refused to release the final batch of long-serving Palestinian prisoners, as agreed earlier. Shortly after the move, Abbas signed applications to join 15 UN agencies. And now, the Palestinian Authority says it would widen its bid and sign up for the statehood of Palestine, if nothing happens before the April 29 deadline for the talks to end.
