European countries failing to protect their Roma communities. According to Amnesty International, the 10 to 12 million Roma living in Europe face the daily threat of forced eviction and police harassment.
Amnesty noted that the situation is the result of Europe's failure to ensure human rights of the Roma. The report also accused the European Union of failing to challenge member states on the systemic discrimination of the oppressed population. Roma are traditionally nomadic people whose ancestors left India centuries ago.
