Thaaarai Thappattai is a film based on Karagaattam, the traditional dance form of Tamils. Varalaxmi Sarathukumar, a professionally trained dancer plays the female lead of the film. As per sources, Sasikumar hails from a Brahmin family in the film and his parents wish him to learn Mridangam. But, Bala wouldn’t love that. Sasikumar is passionate towards learning Thavil, which is considered a substandard in brahminical society. Sasikumar abandons his parents to pursue his passion. This forms the crux of the plot in Thaarai Thappattai
