A woman’s body was recently found outside an apartment complex in St. Petersburg, Florida. A staffer at the complex did indeed find the deceased elderly female, but given that it was April Fool’s Day, he mistook the human remains as a mannequin, believing it was just a prank.

Ronald Benjamin first noticed the corpse lying in the parking lot when he stepped outside for a cigarette break. He received help from a couple who was delivering newspapers and together they all moved the thought-to-be mannequin in a nearby dumpster.

About two hours later, a maintenance worker at the complex, Johnny Williams, saw the blood in the parking lot, which Benjamin thought was paint. Williams was told by a fellow employee about the so-called prank and went to investigate for himself.

When he looked in the dumpster, he realized the being lying there was not a mannequin but a dead human. He contacted police.

An investigation revealed the 96-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping from her 16th floor balcony. Detectives located a suicide note in her apartment and the stool she used to hoist herself over the balcony wall.

Most likely, no criminal charges will be filed against Benjamin, but he has been fired from his job.
