Central African Republic looms large at EU-Africa talks

The Central African Republic, climate change and trade topped talks in Brussels on Thursday as leaders met for day two of the EU-Africa summit.
Europe is Africa’s biggest aid donor. Since 2007 it has given 140 billion euros.
But leaders stressed efforts to build more sustainable partnerships, notably in areas such as agriculture and energy.
The summit was overshadowed by Chad’s decision to pull its peacekeeping mission out of the Central African Republic in protest over claims its troops had aided rebels.
Chad has contributed roughly 850 soldiers to the 6,000 strong African Union force stationed in the war-torn country.
They have been accused of siding with Muslim rebels whose seizure of power last year sparked a wave of religious violence.
