You may not see 2-dollar bills very often, but they’re out there, and so are the denomination’s fans.

Aficionados, bloggers and documentary filmmakers are among the list of devoted users, and all seem to be on a mission to keep the currency alive.

One man says he’s personally responsible for the circulation of about 7 thousand of them a year.

To him, they’re not just a way to pay for stuff, but a way to make every transaction more meaningful, and possibly even memorable.

Not everybody wants in on the special moments, though.

A female fan of the 2 says she’s had her attempts to pay with them refused.

Another man was told by an outraged recipient, “Hey Mr. $2 Bill, not everyone wants your money. Look up your history on Jefferson and slavery.”

The former president’s past clearly hasn’t made all refuse to use the bill that bears his image, though.

They’re made on an as-needed basis and last year, in the first run since 2009, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing pressed 45 million of them.

Could it be that the grass-roots efforts to keep them alive are working?
