The Italian government has initiated their goal of reigning in wasteful spending by auctioning off some non-essential cars on eBay.

Over 150 cars have been specified for sale over the next few weeks, and bit by bit they are starting to show up on the bidding site.

Among those chosen to be put on offer are numerous BMWs, some Alfa Romeos, and 9 Maseratis.

A couple of Jaguars will also be decommissioned from the Italian government’s fleet.

The man behind the mission is the country’s new Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, who feels the autos have become a symbol of Italy’s wasteful expenditures.

While only about 150 cars have been officially put on the ‘for sale’ list thus far, the target number is 15 hundred.

Thus far, the plan is proving successful, as the swanky rides are getting a lot of attention from bidders.

Many listings are late 2000 models with under a hundred thousand miles on them, and appear to be in great cosmetic condition.

If you’re thinking about bidding, payment via wire transfer is available, but the cars need be picked up near Rome.
