Ukraine’s Fatherland party has nominated former prime minister Yuliya Tymoshenko for the presidential bid.
The party announced the news after a meeting in the capital Kiev. Tymoshenko has promised to fight for her country's integration with western security and defense systems. Addressing supporters of her Fatherland party in Kiev's Independence Square, she said joining the powerful countries of the world is the best defense for Ukraine. Tymoshenko will vie against Ukrainian tycoon Petro Poroshenko who's nominated by the UDAR party. Former boxing champion Vitali Klitschko has pulled out of the presidency race in support of Poroshenko. Klitschko says he will instead run for mayor of Kiev in the elections that will be held alongside the presidential polls on May 25.
