Nearly six years since his first visit to Saudi Arabia, US President Barack Obama has arrived in Riyadh to meet with the country's ruler King Abdullah bin Abdel- Aziz.
Obama's visit comes after cracks appeared in the alliance between the two countries. Security in the Persian Gulf, the so-called peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinian Authority, the situation in Egypt and Iran are said to be the issues on the agenda. US diplomats say Obama will also discuss the war in Syria and the military empowerment of the insurgents. Earlier today, Washington Post reported that the Obama administration is planning to boost aid to insurgents fighting the Syrian government. The plan includes a C-I-A training program for 600 men every month in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Qatar. Washington is also mulling providing the militants with anti-aircraft missiles.
