BMW AG plans to spend $1 billion expanding its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, over the next two years, part of an effort to grab a larger share of the world's luxury-automobile market. The German auto maker will add a third body shop at the massive plant that will be used to assemble a new, large sport-utility vehicle to be called the BMW X7, along with the four other types of SUVs already assembled there. The expansion will add 800 jobs.
