Journalists have voiced their concerns over what they called authorities failure to protect media persons. Journalists have demanded that the government take effective measures for the security of media workers in the country. They have called for insurance policy for journalists and compensation for those who died or injured in the line of duty. The country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed solidarity with journalists saying he wants to make Pakistan a friendly country where journalists feel safe and secure during their professional assignments. For this purpose, he has decided to form a commission for the protection of media workers and their well-being.
