    Lebanon's new government wins confidence vote

    Lebanon’s new coalition cabinet has won a vote of confidence by lawmakers after a lengthy debate over its proposed policy statement.96 MPs of the 128-member chamber backed the Cabinet headed by Tamam Salam.This comes after over a month of debates on the content of the manifesto within the government itself which has been successful in including almost all major factions in the country. However, the main disagreement was in the opposition of the March 14th alliance to include the word "resistance" in the policy statement which is the framework for the government policies: Hezbollah, the Amal movement and their March 8th allies have stressed that resistance is necessary for protecting Lebanese against Israeli threats.They have however, allowed for discussions to include the right to resist in a way that might be acceptable to all:
