Geert Wilders sparks racist chant storm
A parliamentarian member of the Dutch far-right Freedom Party has resigned in protest against a speech made by party leader Geert Wilders.
During the meeting he encouraged supporters to chant racist slogans against Moroccans.
Wilders addressed the meeting:
“So I ask you what do you want in this city more or less Moroccans?”
The crowd chants, “less. less.”
Wilders continues: “We will fix it.”
The crowd laughs.
Ronald van Vliet will keep his seat, but as an independent he says Wilders is becoming more extreme.
Wilders’ behaviour has sparked a storm of protest:
One Moroccan woman said:
“I would be interesting to see how he would fix that.”
In response young Moroccans have launched a social media campaign called ‘born here’ in which they post pictures of themselves alongside their Dutch passports.
