Fried Food Worse for Some Than Others

According to a recent study from researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, working with Harvard Medical School, some people’s genes make it more dangerous for them to eat fried foods. According to a recent study from researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, working with Harvard Medical School, some people’s genes make it more dangerous for them to eat fried foods.

People with genes linked to obesity are twice as likely to be overweight than people who ate just as much fried food, but have a different makeup.

Data was collected from large health studies that involved 37 thousand subjects who filled out a survey about their eating and lifestyle habits along with taking a DNA test.

That information was used to calculate a genetic risk for obesity connected with 32 known genetic mutations.

Lu Qi who worked on the study is quoted as saying: “We got highly consistent results, which show that the genetic background and consumption of fried food moderate each other’s effect on obesity.”

The subjects were mostly middle aged and of European descent, and the self reporting survey didn’t ask what kind of oils were used to fry the food.

The researchers say that other factors may have also played a role in the results of the study, but medical experts agree that fried food isn’t good for anyone, it just happens to be worse for some people.
