A Colombian air force fighter jet crashed on Tuesday (February 18) during a training mission, killing one of the two crewmen on board.

The Colombian air force confirmed the fatal crash in an official statement. An Israeli-made, two-seater Kfir 3006 crashed near Norcasia at 4:53 p.m. on a training mission.

One of the pilots was killed while another managed to eject from the aircraft and was rescued later. He is now receiving medical care at the air force's military health unit in Puerto Salgar in Cundinamarca province.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, but an investigation is underway. Another Colombian air force Kfir crashed near the Palanquero military base on September 27 due to a mechanical failure, but the two pilots were unhurt.
