STORY: Japan Fashion Week (JFW) got underway in Tokyo on Monday (March 17) with the first runway show of the 2014/15 Autumn Winter collections being hosted by Thai designer Pim Sukhahuta.

The clothes of 'Sretsis', or 'Sisters' has a global following, but Pim said she and her siblings chose to show in Japan, rather than New York or Paris, because they feel Japanese customers really understand their brand.

Japanese designers such as Mitsuru Nishizaki are hoping to venture into the global market.

Nishizaki worked previously as a patternmaker for influential Japanese designer, Yohji Yamamoto, whose fashion house has become a successful global brand.

Mercedes-Benz Japan Fashion Week continues until Saturday (March 22).
