Three young boys killed in shooting in Thailand south

Three young boys were shot dead in the Bacho district of Thailand on Monday night (February 3) in a shooting that Pol Maj Gen Pattanawut said could have been related to a personal matter. The boys were brothers aged three, five and nine.
The three children were returning from evening prayers with their parents on on a motorcycle on Monday evening. The family prayed at a mosque in Narathiwat, one of three Muslim-majority southern provinces, according to the Bangkok Post.
Witnesses said that four gunmen armed with AK rifles and 9mm pistols opened fire on the family as they were about to enter their home at No.143/4 of Moo 7 in tambon Palukasamoh of Bacho district at around 9:00 p.m. The boys were killed, but their four-months pregnant mother and father survived. The gunmen had been hiding in trees nearby.
The Bangkok Post says the boys have been identified as Baharee Maman, 9, Areeya, 5, and Muyaheh, 3. Their father has been identified as Jehmu Maman, 40, and their mother identified as Padeelaeh Mayu, 33.
According to the Bangkok Post, "More than 5900 people — the majority of them civilians — have been killed in the conflict waged by shadowy insurgents seeking greater autonomy from Buddhist-majority Thailand, which annexed the region a century ago.
Around 40 people have been killed in the restive region so far this year, according to monitors Deep South Watch.
Dozens of children have been killed either by insurgents or security forces since the start of the bloodshed in 2004, prompting the United Nations to call for an end to violence against youngsters in the region."
