Senior US Senator John McCain has called for massive military assistance to Ukraine warning of unprecedented measures by Washington and its allies against Moscow in case of an all-out invasion of eastern Ukraine.
He made the remarks shortly before Kiev accused Russia of invading a region in southeast Ukraine near Crimea. The US senator expressed deep concern about reports of Russian troops moving closer to Ukraine's eastern border and carrying out military drill there. He also called the Sunday vote in Crimea a phony referendum organized by pro-Russia authorities. McCain leads a delegating of seven senators to Kiev where they met Ukraine's acting President Oleksander Turchinov.
