The trend of taking selfie pictures might be contributing to more people getting cosmetic surgery.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a third of their 27 hundred members said more people got plastic surgery last year because of pictures of themselves that were posted on social media sites.

Statistics say that there were 10 percent more nose jobs, 7 percent more hair transplants and 6 percent more eyelid surgery, with women under thirty getting more cosmetic surgery compared to the previous year.

Doctor Leah Totton, who recently opened a skin clinic is quoted as saying: “Due to increased social networking we now have unlimited access to the appearance of others, including celebrities. Patients will often present their selfie and compare it with celebs’ selfies, requesting a feature such as lips or cheeks like a particular celebrity.”

Selfies have become so common that the word was included into the Oxford English Dictionary.

What do you think about people deciding to get plastic surgery because they are unhappy with how they look in a selfie?
