The United Nations has warned about the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Sudan's restive Darfur region.

The UN peacekeeping chief says one-hundred thousand people have fled their homes because of the upsurge of violence in the last six weeks. Herve Ladsous also says some two million people have already been displaced because of the conflict between the Sudanese government and rebel groups. Darfur has been the scene of bloodshed since 2003 when rebels took up arms against the Khartoum government.
