A Chinese government agency website on Wednesday (March 12) said a Chinese satellite had photographed three "suspicious floating objects" in waters north-east of Kuala Lumpur and south of Vietnam in the area where missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is thought to have vanished.

The website of the State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence said the images were taken over the "suspected accident area at sea" on Sunday (March 9) that was not far from where the plane made its last known communication with air traffic control.

There was no immediate explanation why the Chinese agency waited for four days to reveal the images.

China's state television CCTV reported the finding on Thursday morning (March 13).
