Crimean Tatar community in Turkey call for Ukraine’s territorial integrity

    by PressTV

The Crimean Peninsula is 350kms away from Turkey, and although Turkey hasn't had direct control over Crimea for more than 200 years, there are still strong cultural ties to the region's 300,000-strong Turkic-speaking Muslim Crimean Tatar minority. Furthermore, there is a large Crimean Tatar diaspora in Turkey, numbering in the millions, primarily in central Anatolia especially in Ankara, Eskisehir, and Konya. In advance of 16th March referendum, many of Turkey's Crimean Tatar community are wary of developments that bring back bad memories of their expulsion by then Soviet dictator, Stalin 70 years ago this year.
