All flights in or out of the main airport in Ukraine’s semi-autonomous Crimea region have been suspended-- except those connecting to Moscow.
Pro-Russia defense forces have taken over the air traffic control in Simferopol's airport. A member of the defense forces team says Simferopol's air traffic control and the main runway at the airport have been taken over. He said the take-over was meant to prevent activists from Kiev coming to the region. Ukraine International Airlines says flights between Kiev and Simferopol have been cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, pro-Russia defense forces have seized the railroad headquarters in Sim-fe-ropol. Officials say a Crimean lawmaker was also among the assailants.
