Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says Saudi Arabia and Qatar are fueling insurgency in his country.
Maliki said Riyadh and Doha are destabilizing Iraq by supporting al-Qaeda-linked insurgent groups. He also stated that the two countries have effectively declared war on Iraq through their actions. The Iraqi prime minister added that he holds Saudi Arabia and Riyadh responsible for the security crisis in the country, and described Riyadh as a major supporter of global terrorism. Iraq has been gripped by a deadly wave of violence since December. The army has been carrying out operations against militants of the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in the western province of Anbar.
