Syrian forces continue their push to free more areas from militants. In their latest drive, they regained control of Zareh town in the Homs countryside.
Army forces pushed into the town following days of fierce battles with insurgents holed up in the region. Many militants have been killed during the operation and their weapons have been destroyed. Local sources say a number of insurgents have surrendered to the army. Over the past year, the Syrian army has been engaged in fierce clashes with Takfiri militants holed up in different areas of Homs province. The fighting has forced thousands of people to flee the region.
