The prime minister of Ukraine’s autonomous Crimea region says a referendum on whether to join the Russian Federation will go ahead as planned.
Sergei Aksyonov says no one is able to cancel the voting. The referendum planned for March 16 has dramatically raised tensions with Kiev. Ukrainian authorities are outraged, calling the vote unconstitutional and illegitimate. The Acting Foreign Minister says his country will not give up Crimea in the south under any condition. Andriy Desh-chytsia says the region will remain part of the Ukrainian territory.
