A Great White shark is undertaking the kind of epic journey that movies are made of.

Her name is Lydia, and she is on the verge of becoming the first of her kind ever seen fully crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

Sure, lots of sharks have traveled great distance in the past, but none of them have traveled her route while equipped with a tracker.

Lydia was outfitted with hers about a year ago, along with several other sharks, and has since proven to be among the most mobile of them.

Her starting point was Jacksonville, Florida.

Over the months she’s visited the coast of South Carolina, and once made it all the way to the middle of the Atlantic before turning back.

This time, however, she’s extended her oceanic jaunt and is closing in on County Cork, Ireland.

In total, Lydia has already covered nearly 20 thousand miles.

The researchers have no idea why she goes where she does, or why any shark chooses their routes, for that matter.

Thus, they have no idea where she’ll head after spending some time in Ireland, if she does indeed decide to go there.
