Rabies Scare After Teacher Bring Dead Fox to School

Students and parents in Greene, New York recently got quite a scare. The trouble started after a high school teacher, Justin Pisanello brought a dead fox to school to show it to his three classes .
Students and parents in Greene, New York recently got quite a scare. The trouble started after a high school teacher, Justin Pisanello brought a dead fox to school to show it to his three classes .
About a week after the dead fox was showcased to students, a parent was alerted and contacted the school district. Superintendent Jonathan Retz quickly issued a letter to the parents, informing them that the adolescents may need a rabies vaccination.
"The teacher Justin Pisanello brought the remains in after students told him they saw it on the road. According to Chenango County Health Department, he brought it in without any safety measures like gloves or goggles." [WBNG]
In total, 55 students had been exposed to the fox. The Chenango County Health Department was also notified.
The fox was tested for rabies and thankfully the results came back negative.
Many local residents were outraged and shocked over Pisanello’s decision to bring the fox to school, as it had nothing to do with his teaching lessons.
Pisanello reportedly obtained the dead fox from the side of the road and did not wear gloves while handling the remains.
He also failed to bring the fox into the office and alert staffers of the dead animal. The district is currently investigating the incident.
