Crimea's prime minister says over 11-thousand pro-Russia forces have taken control of all access to the peninsula.

Sergei Aksyonov says the troops have also blockaded all Ukrainian military bases that have not yet surrendered. He says riot police and security forces have also joined the pro-Russia troops. Earlier, a U-N envoy sent to Crimea was forced to leave under the threat from armed men. This as the European Union on Wednesday extended 15 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine's interim government. The Crimean prime minister has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to help restore peace and calm in the region. Moscow has declared that its presence in Crimea is to protect Russian citizens and interests.
