It’s a known fact – dogs can and often do become loved members of the family. One woman in Los Angeles is left brokenhearted after her dog went missing and landed in the home of another family.
A little less than a month ago, Rosa Torres' 8-month-old dog named Raffiki wandered away from her backyard. Right away, Torres began searching.
"She's not a dog first. She's not just a pet. She's a family member. She's my daughter. She's my son's best friend." [KCBS]
About a week after Raffiki disappeared, someone found a photo of the puppy on an adoption website. Torres was alerted and she soon discovered Raffiki had been dropped off at an animal shelter about 10 miles away from her home and subsequently adopted by a new family.
Now Torres is fighting to get Raffiki, or as her new owners called her, Kami, back. Torres contacted the rescue organization and applied for an adoption before Raffiki was placed into a new home. According to the rescue organization, her application wasn’t received until after the other family had received an approval for the ownership of the dog.
Torres alleged that she was turned down because she lives in a bad part of town and the pup wasn’t micro chipped or wearing tags. Torres said her 4-year-old son is devastated by the loss of their dog.
She’s offered to pay the new family to get Raffiki back, but they’re not willing to return her.
