An unnamed female military veteran had been living in her midsize car after losing her home this past January. She wasn’t alone in the vehicle however.

For over a month, the woman along with her 24 cats and three dogs stayed in the auto. The lady, who is suffering from health problems, checked herself into the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

She left all the pets inside the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the Humane Society of Lebanon County received a phone call from police about the animals. The woman had reportedly told hospital staff she left her dogs and cats in the car.

Rescuers arrived at the parking lot to take the animals. The Humane Society’s director of operations, Aspasia Yeager stated ‘She reached out for help before it was too late, thankfully. She was very cooperative and thankful that the animals, which she obviously loved, are going to get the care they need.’

The conditions in the vehicle were reportedly filthy. The cats were slightly dehydrated but the dogs are perfectly fine.

Ownership of all 27 animals was transferred to the Humane Society of Lebanon County. They will be placed up for adoption within the next week.
